Comment challenge Days 2/3
I have had a couple of conversations, both comment and email, with Sue Waters about problems I was having with cocomment, and I was sick of the ping, ping, ping I kept hearing especially when I opened anything with Google, my reader or mail. So tonight I decided to get rid of the extension and only use the bookmarklet … lo and behold it is now working well. I just have to remember to click on the bookmarklet before submitting my comment.
I looked on the wiki tonight to see whose blog I could comment on that I had never contacted before. One conversation caught my eye, ‘Baby Steps’ especially when mention of senior staff at the school. I have been trying to get senior staff at my school to write a comment on the students’ blogs but so far no luck. I doubt whether I could actually get them to start their own blog, so to see James MacDonald begin his own blog without help from the IT staff was fantastic. Well done James.

Funnily enough I was having problems with cocomment early in the week but no issues for the past two days. Anyway have to write a post on how to use it so hopefully this will answer some of your frustrations.
I was, and still am having problems with CoComment but guess I’ll get it sorted before long. One thing I did have was the ping, ping, ping exactly as you described- I sorted this by using FireFox rather than IE, no pinging anymore. I have swapped between IE & Firefox a few times over the last couple of years and am now in a Firefox phase…
One thing Sue- do you know how the picture icons are configured in your blog- Sue W’s comment had her picture with it- where did that come from, do you know? Chris
Hi Chris,
Both Sue Waters and I have blogs with edublogs.org and they have blog and user avatars. Those are the little pictures that appear with our comments. I’ve never tried Firefox, but now I have cocomment working without the pings, I’ll stay as I am with IE.
Thank you for the solution to the ping ping ping….I was driven mad by the noise and the way it froze up my IE.
I’ll try installing the bookmarklet instead and see if I can conquer the problem.
If not I’ll switch to Foxfire. Because like many of you, that solves many problems I have had in the past.
Hi Sue,
I’m still having issues with cocomment myself and working out my Flock vs. Firefox issues.
I am also having issues getting our admins to comment on student blogs. I had great success though, with getting our librarian (yes, librarian, he’s adamantly opposed to being called a media specialist and that’s another story) to comment on the blogs. The students were really pleased to see his contributions. Also, he was able to “testify” with enthusiasm at a meeting about what he got out of reading their blogs in terms of knowing them better and being able to suggest reading material to certain students. I’m hoping that his experience will inspire other administrators before the year is up!

Hi I am responding to a question left on my wormbins blog about a program that we used to create a comic, it is Comic Life and you can download it free for a trial period. There are lots of ways to use it and it was fun to turn an interview with parents into something visual. Try it.
Thanks for the comment on my blog. We all have so much to learn from each other.
