My apologies and using wordle

Filed under: blogging, skills — Miss W. @ 4:28 pm

I tend to forget to write on my personal blog.  I often though write on the class blog – maybe I will do some cross posting, as many of the posts would also be handy for the teachers who are just starting blogging at our school.  I don’t know how some people can keep three or more blogs going – maybe each one is for a specific purpose – not like mine which is a mish mash of a lot of things.

So here is the first cross posting:  Using WORDLE

A lot of teachers are writing about this website, which allows you to cut and paste some text into a program which will then print out the most common words used.  Maybe you could put in the blog posts you have written, and find out what are your major topics.  Here is one I did by copying and pasting the major parts of the wikipedia article on Sumo wrestling.

How could doing this help you when studying for an exam or test?

  1. I thought that this could be used as an assessment of how a class developed their use of vocabulary in character description ie paste all of the descriptions in at the start and end of the topic and see the differences in language use.

  2. Thanks for sharing wordle. I can use this with my fifth graders to create a word cloud for math vocabulary that we will encounter everyday. The list could be added to everyday and then uploaded every friday to see which words/concepts we used the most. We could do this at the end of the chapter, subject, grading period or school year. I think this would help students to see what concepts are the most important, or at least the most important based upon the curriculum.
    Thanks again for sharing.

  3. Hi Mrs.W! Thanks for telling me about how’s it like where you guys live. It’s really interesting to learn about other places. I’m also responding to some of your student’s blogs too.

  9. Hi Miss Wyatt! I love your blogs! This one is especially helpful and many thanks for leaving me some info on my blog, too. I haven’t set up a professional blog, yet, but it looks like I should do that. So far, just the one to experiment with possibilities for my classes next year. I’m in the US, so off for the summer, hence why I’m experimenting right now. But, this is just very exciting.
I did have some trouble using wordle, though…created one but then could not get it posted on my blog. I cut and pasted as the directions say, but only the copied code came up on my blog. Any words of wisdom about that?
